I sprinted up the stairs of the building marked with the Greek letter, Psi. My heart was bursting with excitement as I pushed open the doors. As I walked down the hallway, my overwhelming urge to see what was behind every door consumed me. I opened one and found rats running in a radial arm maze. I burst through the next one and found people running statistical analyses to improve their workplace. The next door had a psychologist suggesting a treatment plan for a man with schizophrenia. I had no idea what else this building had in store for me, but I knew that I never wanted to leave.
This story illustrates exactly how I feel about psychology. I am so passionate about every aspect of psychology, and I always have been. Throughout college, I had a very difficult time deciding how I was going to narrow down the type of psychologist that I wanted to be. From the beginning, I knew that I wanted to work with people, but I had no preference on whether they were depressed, schizophrenic, autistic, etc. I decided to get as much psychology-related experience as I could so that I could be exposed and acquire perspicacity in different areas in order to make a concrete decision about the type of graduate degree I want to pursue.
