The VA 21 Summer Leadership Institute in the summer of 2013 at Christopher Newport University.

My junior year of college, I was the Executive President for Radford University's chapter of VA 21. My Vice President, and great friend, Colby Bender, is featured in the picture to the left. He is currently serving his second term as Student Body President. VA 21 was a very interesting experience for me because it was extremely different from all other organizations that I was involved in. It did not relate to my academic status nor did it relate to my major. I became involved with VA 21 because I care so much about the value of my education. Throughout my term as president, I learned so much about ways to engage in politics in order to lobby for higher education. I met many politicians who care about education, and I learned about financial aspects of college. I learned that as an out-of-state student, I pay almost triple the amount as in-state students. I learned how important it is to vote in every election possible and educate yourself on candidates that are running. VA taught me very valuable lessons, and I am very thankful of my involvement in this organization.
