In March, 2014, I led an alternative spring break trip at the Possumwood Acres Wildlife Sanctuary in Hubert, NC. I would not trade this experience for a week in Miami or a spring break cruise. Even though this trip involved hands on work where we cleaned dirty housing areas and picked up trash along their adopted highway, it was an experience of a lifetime. I watched injured owls undergo surgery, baby squirrels being taken care of, and a one-eyed rabbit interact with students. It was absolutely amazing to have the opportunity to take care of these wildlife animals and assist them in recovering from injuries. We spent a day helping out at a local zoo, and we spent another day volunteering at an animal shelter. We also visited a museum and an aquarium. I absolutely love animals, and this was definitely the best spring break I had in my college career.
